DIRT + PAINT
A few years ago when I started spending summers in the country I changed my art materials along with my location and began working with stuff I found nearby.
In the city I'd been making pieces from recycled scrap lumber that was readily available on the streets near my studio. In the country the equivalent turned out to be whatever caught my eye along the hiking trails and campgrounds in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
So came the idea of using natural pigments like shale, sandstone and clay. The "NEW WORKS" pieces are sometimes purely dirt and rock, sometimes mixed with paint, and sometimes just paint.
